What it Means to be a Friend of the Orpheum Theatre Group

Being a part of Friends of the Orpheum (FOTO) is about more than volunteering—it's about becoming an integral member of a community dedicated to preserving and promoting the cultural heritage of the Orpheum Theatre Group and its venues.

As a member of FOTO, you can support our mission through various volunteer activities, from ushering at performances to assisting with special events and educational programs. It’s about lending a helping hand, forging connections, making memories, and experiencing the magic of live theater alongside fellow enthusiasts. Whether you're a longtime supporter or new to the scene, joining Friends of the Orpheum means joining a family bound by a shared love for the arts and a commitment to ensuring the Orpheum Theatre Group remains a beacon of culture and community.

Supporting Live Theatre, Creating Lasting Memories

I first started volunteering at the Orpheum when I became an empty nester. I needed something to put me in contact with other people and fill the void. Twelve years later, I am still here, no longer filling a void but thriving! There is always excitement with the Orpheum and Friends of the Orpheum ( FOTO)! As a member of FOTO I’ve served on the Board as a member-at-large, Vice President and President.  As an usher, I’ve been a ticket-taker, floor supervisor, and lobby worker. I love working the cast parties and getting a chance to see the actors up close. I also have been able to meet some really nice people and make some great friends.  Oh, and I love being able to attend the special party for those who work 24 shows or more and the summer party!”

This theater has been a part of my life for so many years.  I remember seeing the movie Goldfinger here 60 years ago.  One of the first dates I had with my wife was coming to see Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.  Then some years later in the late 80's I convinced my boss that it was a good idea to buy Broadway Season tickets to entertain our clients. So, I could hardly wait till I retired so that I could join the Friends of the Orpheum so I could be a part of this theater.  I enjoy welcoming patrons to the theater.  This theater is a treasure to our community, and I enjoy the work we do here.”

Friends of the Orpheum Cookbook

For decades, our FOTO (Friends of the Orpheum) volunteer ushers have welcomed the cast and crew of Broadway touring productions with a home cooked meal. This tradition of hospitality has made Memphis and the Orpheum among the most anticipated stops on tour - even earning our volunteers the Star of Touring Broadway Award from the Broadway League, producer of the Tony Awards.

Now you can create your own cast party experience with a delectable cookbook written by our volunteers!

The Cast Party: A Collection of Recipes by the Friends of the Orpheum includes the most celebrated dishes FOTO has to offer, as well as guest recipes from friends we’ve made along the way. Savor the comforting cuisine our stars have enjoyed for decades — there’s a story behind every bite!

Proceeds support the Orpheum Theatre Group’s education and community programs.
