Plan a Visit

Theatre Etiquette

As a courtesy to both the performers and fellow patrons at Orpheum Theatre or Halloran Centre events, please note the following tips for theatre etiquette. Thank you for joining us in helping us maintain a respectful and enjoyable environment for all!

Late Seating

To avoid disruptions, please arrive early and be seated before showtime. For some performances, latecomers may be seated during an appropriate break, based on the production’s policy. If you arrive late, you can follow the performance via the live broadcast in the lobby. We appreciate your patience as our team manages seating.

Mobile Devices

Text messaging, photography, and recording are prohibited unless explicitly permitted by the artist or production. Please silence all devices to avoid disturbing others.

Please be respectful of patrons using mobile devices for accessibility needs, such as closed captioning or audio description through the GalaPro app, which is thoughtfully designed with dark mode and airplane mode settings as not to disturb others around the user.

For select events, an artist or production may require a phone-free event where phones are turned off and locked during the event using a service such as Yondr. Ticket holders will be notified in advance via email if a phone-free policy is in place.

Additionally, please refrain from talking or making noise during a performance, and avoid leaving or re-entering the venue once the show has started, as it can be disruptive to both performers and fellow patrons.

Noise

Please avoid talking or whispering during a performance, as it can distract both fellow patrons and performers. Your consideration helps maintain an immersive experience for everyone.

When enjoying concessions or retrieving items, please be mindful of noise. We recommend unwrapping snacks before the show or during intermission and refraining from rattling ice in cups during a performance.

Concert Etiquette

In addition to the policies above, audience members may stand at most concerts and are sometimes encouraged to do so by the artist. All audience members are expected to be respectful of those around them. Under no circumstances will patrons be allowed to block exits or aisles while standing.

Working with Our Staff

Our dedicated staff and team of volunteer ushers work hard to accommodate guests in our theatres. Like a well-rehearsed performance, we’re working to make your visit seamless, so thank you for your patience!

If you encounter an issue while in our venues, please speak to an usher or the house manager so that we may resolve the situation as it happens and ensure the remainder of your evening is a memorable one.

Children at the Theatre

Unless otherwise noted, children under four are typically not permitted at most shows. All patrons, regardless of age, must have their own ticket.

Some productions may not be suitable for all ages. While age recommendations may not always be provided, we encourage parents and guardians to research the production before purchasing tickets to ensure it aligns with your family’s values and standards.

Items at the Theatre

To ensure all guests can enjoy performances without distraction, we kindly ask that you refrain from bringing items that may disrupt the experience, crowd others, or block aisles. Items such as flash photography equipment, video recording devices, and electronic devices with loud ringtones or notifications are not permitted. For a complete list of prohibited items, please visit our Safety and Security page.
