Orpheum Theatre
Since opening as a vaudeville palace in 1928, the Orpheum Theatre has enchanted visitors with its artisan craftsmanship and architectural beauty. Playing a key role in Memphis' cultural scene and listed early on as a landmark, it has seen multiple renovations in the past 30 years, maintaining its legacy as a top venue while preserving its historic charm. The preservation has been largely community funded and supported, demonstrating the value people across the Mid-South place on the Orpheum. Hosting Broadway shows since 1977, along with a wide variety of other performing arts and community events, the Orpheum Theatre Group remains a central figure in Memphis' entertainment and cultural heritage.
The beloved Mighty Wurlitzer organ is one of only 12 classic theatre organs in the country still in its original building. Thanks to support from the entire Memphis community, in 2020 this remarkable instrument was fully restored to its original 1920’s grandeur, delighting audiences to this day.

A Historic Space for Timeless Memories
The Orpheum Theatre was one of the first buildings in Memphis placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The six Czhecholsavakian crystal chandeliers that illuminate the auditorium are original to the building, the largest of which weigh approximately 1,000 lbs.
Commemorative stars line the front walkway, honoring Orpheum performers from 1928 to the present day.
The Orpheum name is derived from Orpheus, the epic musician from Greek Mythology.
Throughout its history the venue has served as a Vaudeville theater, a Malco cinema, Broadway playhouse, and a performing arts center for all types of live entertainment.
The theater is reportedly haunted by seven spirits, including a playful and mischievous 12-year-old named Mary.
