Brought to life by a groundbreaking all-female creative team, this irresistible new hit features original music and lyrics by six-time GRAMMY® nominee Sara Bareilles ("Brave," "Love Song"), a book by acclaimed screenwriter Jessie Nelson (I Am Sam), choreography by Lorin Latarro (Les Dangereuse Liaisons, Waiting for Godot) and direction by Tony Award® winner Diane Paulus (Hair, Pippin, Finding Neverland).
"It's an empowering musical of the highest order!" raves the Chicago Tribune.
Inspired by Adrienne Shelly's beloved film, Waitress tells the story of Jenna — a waitress and expert pie maker, Jenna dreams of a way out of her small town and loveless marriage. A baking contest in a nearby county and the town's new doctor may offer her a chance at a fresh start, while her fellow waitresses offer their own recipes for happiness. But Jenna must summon the strength and courage to rebuild her own life.
"Waitress is a little slice of heaven!" says Entertainment Weekly and "a monumental contribution to Broadway!" according to Marie Claire. Don't miss this uplifting musical celebrating friendship, motherhood, and the magic of a well-made pie.
Baked from the Heart: Waitress Pie Contest
WAITRESS is looking for the most creative pie recipe in the Mid-South. Pie is a key ingredient to the storytelling of WAITRESS, and the show is looking for pie recipes that mimic the lead character’s whimsical recipes for the Baked from the Heart: WAITRESS Pie Contest.
Jenna pours her heart into her pies, crafting desserts that mirror her topsy-turvy life such as “The Key (Lime) to Happiness Pie” and “Betrayed By My Eggs Pie.”
All interested participants are invited to submit their recipe to firstname.lastname@example.org no later than noon on Friday, Dec. 21. Three finalists will be notified that evening. Finalists will be asked to bake their pie and present it for judging on Wednesday, January 2. The winner will be determined by a panel of judges and will be announced on Monday, Jan. 7 at 10am via the Orpheum’s social media channels.
The winner will receive four (4) tickets to see WAITRESS at the Orpheum on Tuesday, Jan. 15 at 7:30pm. Their recipe will be featured as an insert in the first 50 official WAITRESS cookbooks, sold every night of the engagement at the theatre.
Contestants must be 18 years or older to participate. For more information and for official contest rules, click here.
