Story Pirates celebrates creative writing by students from coast to coast in a loud, hilarious sketch comedy musical performed by professional improvisers and musicians. The show is based entirely on stories written by elementary school students, including Stuck in the Stone Age by Memphis student Vince Boberski!

Part of the show is made up on the spot by the kids in the audience! Story Pirates will delight and surprise with puppets, enlivening songs and outrageous sketches, all the while motivating kids to pick up a pencil and write down their own fantastic adventures. Story topics run the gamut, from kung fu ninja babies fighting crime to cats flying and tickle monsters who rule the world.

Story Pirates' first album, Nothing Is Impossible, is now available in online stores. Featuring songs like "Fart Out Loud Day" — which Lin-Manuel Miranda calls "a masterpiece" — the album is full of originally written and recorded tunes based on story ideas submitted by children.

Special Engagement Activities

Come early to make a pirate craft and snap a shot in our photo booth. Pre-show activities start at 9am.

After the performance, help encourage young voices during "Story Love," a writing session hosted by the Story Pirates where the families who attend will each read a different story from around the world and then write a feedback letter of encouragement to the author of the story. Learn more about "Story Love" at storypirates.org.

Before and after the performance, local bookstore Novel will be selling copies of Story Pirates: Stuck in the Stone Age. Vince Boberski, the Memphis student whose story was turned into the book, will also be signing copies.

The Taste of Tennessee food truck will also be selling treats from 9am to 12:30pm.

Story Pirates Book Drive

You can help make sure every student attending this show as part of our Student Matinee Series receives a copy of the book that inspired it!
