We want YOU to participate in our next community engagement event leading up to the Memphis tour performances of Hamilton!
In the History Around Memphis Poetry Workshops, Orpheum Theatre Group (OTG) will provide community engagement that explores the legacy theme from HAMILTON, through the lens of history around Memphis. This collaboration will include a roster of OTG Teaching Artists (TAs) and local poet Mentor Coaches (MCs) enlisted from the Memphis community. TAs and MCs will facilitate collaboratively at workshops to provide instruction and coaching for participants in preparation for a culminating performance event at the historic Orpheum Theatre.
SCULPTING YOUR STORY is the June 1 workshop where participants will explore topics about the history around Memphis and choose the topics most relevant to them as the starting point for experimentation with poetic styles and expression techniques. During the SHARING YOUR TRUTH workshop on June 8, participants will further develop their artistic work and collaborate to create a large-group poetry piece.
Finalists for the June 15 slam performance will be announced after the second workshop. We strongly encourage participants to attend all sessions. In order to receive a placement in the large-group finale performance or to be considered for selection as a finalist in the slam on the evening of June 15, participants must attend both workshops and the tech rehearsal planned for the afternoon of June 15.
