Broadway Events & Education

In an effort to expose children to Broadway performances, the Orpheum offers several programs to make tickets and educational materials more accessible to young people. Educators are finding that young people exposed to the arts possess higher skills in critical thinking, analyzation, deductive reasoning, problem solving ability and generally score higher on standardized tests.

Student Rush

For select Broadway shows, $20 Student Rush tickets go on sale fifteen minutes prior to show time.

These discounted tickets are cash only.

The computer selects the best available remaining seats. Individuals must present valid proof of student or teaching status (i.e. ID card, report card, note on letterhead). These tickets are limited to two per ID.

We will have Student Rush at the Sunday, August 29 evening (7:00 PM) performance of The Color Purple.

Orpheum Theatre Kid's Night

We pull out all the stops for Kid's Night! Children who attend Kid’s Night get to participate in special activities related to the show currently playing at the Orpheum. Receive one child's ticket (ages 8-18) free with the purchase of an adult ticket at regular price.

Tickets are available at the Orpheum Box Office. Call 901-525-3000 or visit the Orpheum's ticket counter at Davis-Kidd Booksellers in the Laurelwood Center. Certain restrictions apply.

Chat-Backs with Broadway Performers
Many Broadway show casts are willing to participate in a question and answer session with Orpheum patrons. These fifteen-minute sessions take place immediately after the selected performance.

Cast and Student Meet-n-Greets
Often, Broadway actors are interested in visiting local area schools to conduct a small workshop, answer questions about the life of a performer and/or work with students on audition pieces. The interaction is invaluable for the students of the community.

Study Guides
The Orpheum Theatre is pleased to offer curriculum-based study guides free of charge to any teacher who would like to incorporate a Broadway production in the classroom curriculum.

Special Classroom Visits
Learning begins in the classroom. During the school year, special classroom programs and workshops are available. Please contact the Department of Education and Community Programs at 901-525-7800 ext. 244 to schedule a classroom visit from a local teaching artist.

Group Student Discounts
Many Broadway productions at the Orpheum offer a special group rate. Teachers may contact the Group Sales Department at 901-525-7800 ext. 278 and buy tickets for a class to attend the show. Educational groups receive a free study guide and up to a 20% discount on selected performances.

Production Rating System
In order to ensure patron satisfaction, the Orpheum Theatre has implemented a rating system for our Broadway shows.
