Why does The Orpheum Theatre value arts education?
We believe that, through storytelling, drawing, play-acting, and dancing, children make connections to what they’ve learned and experienced. Attending performances builds listening and observation skills and improves cognitive learning.
We believe that arts education provides opportunities for children to explore their own interests and talents and learn to express themselves.
We believe that arts education plays a key role in building the workforce of the 21st century. Creativity and innovation are vital skills in all fields. Through the arts, children learn to make judgments in the absence of rules and discover that problems can have more than one solution.
We believe that arts education stimulates academic performance and economic growth. More than that, arts education connects us to one another and brings joy to our lives.
Live theatre changes lives, develops well-rounded individuals, strengthens basic learning skills and builds self-worth. The Orpheum Theatre's Department of Education & Community Programs is committed to offering educational opportunities using theatre to develop basic learning skills, discipline, and self-esteem to cultivate the whole person by developing intuition, reasoning and imagination.
The Orpheum's programs fulfill an important need in our community and it is essential no child be turned away because of an inability to pay. Your financial support strengthens the educational programs at the Orpheum Theatre and allows us to reach more children.
